A memorial service on board the Yorkshire Belle will be held for a US Air Force pilot who sadly lost his life in a crash off the Yorkshire Coast two years ago.
On the 15th June 2020, US Air Force 1st Lt.. Kenneth Allen, who was just 27, was killed when his F-15C Eagle fighter jet crashed into the sea off Flamborough Head.
A native of Utah, Lt Allen was serving with the highly skilled eagle drivers of the USAF 493 Squadron, 48th Fighter Wing, stationed at RAF Lakenheath.
A spokesman’s explained: “The covid pandemic prevented a memorial service at the time, but on Saturday 9th July 2022 (Armed Forces
Day) a short service of remembrance, accompanied by the laying of a wreath, will take place on board the Yorkshire Belle.
As representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the church to which Allen
belonged, added : “A two hour boat
trip will leave the Harbour at 3pm.
“From earliest childhood it had always been Lt Allen’s dream “to soar with the eagles” and he earn’t his private pilot’s licence whilst still at high school. He graduated in 2011 as his school’s Most Outstanding Senior Boy and went on to attend the US Air Force Academy.
“Inscribed in his academic ring are the words from Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and of good courage”.
