Bridlington Spa will play host to a celebration of one of publishing’s fastest-growing genres when the East Riding Festival of Words returns this autumn.
The popular festival, organised by East Riding Libraries and funded by Arts Council England, will bring together bestselling authors, performers and creative voices for a packed programme of literary events across the county throughout October.
A major highlight for Bridlington will be the Romantasy Day at Bridlington Spa on Sunday, October 4. The event will feature acclaimed authors Ellis Hunter, Rachel Greenlaw, Frances White and H.F. Askwith, who will explore the rapidly growing genre that blends fantasy, romance, mythology and magic.
The festival will also welcome a host of well-known writers, including Patrick Gale, Mark Billingham, M.J. Arlidge, John Ironmonger and Dave Haslam.
Among the other key events is Suspense Saturday at Toll Gavel Church, Beverley, on October 3, bringing together leading crime writers for a day dedicated to mysteries, thrillers and crime fiction. Authors taking part include Mark Billingham, M.J. Arlidge, Tom Hindle and Ajay Chowdhury.
Further events include Magic Between the Shelves in Driffield and an author talk by John Ironmonger at South Cave Library.
Alongside author discussions, the programme will feature workshops, live performances, history events and family activities at venues across the East Riding.
