“Everyone is welcome.” Thats the message from the organisers of weekly coffee morning event that is held in Bridlington.
The Priory Coffee Mates hold a free coffee morning event every Friday from 10.am to 12.noon at the Priory Church Rooms on Church Green.
Helen Hughes, one of the organisers and volunteer, said: “We set up Coffee Mates as part of the Priory Church 900 year celebrations in 2013.”
A team of volunteers provide coffee, teas and biscuits free of charge as a way of bringing the community together and reaching out to anyone who wants a chat and a bit of company.
“Our events are for both locals and visitors alike and it is totally informal.” said Helen. “Some people may want to have a chat and see a different face and it is better that sitting at home alone and not speaking to anyone for days on end,”
Kay Traves, who is also a volunteer at Coffee Mates, said: “It is part of the Priory Church remit to provide hospitality and we think this is a great way of fulfilling that criteria and reaching out to our community.”
There is also a ‘Man Talk’ event held at the Bull and Sun pub on the first Monday of each month. This is an informal, men only, evening that starts at 6.30pm and is open to any male over 18 who wants to have a chat and have a drink or a meal.
