Residents have been allowed to return to their homes near to area where a suspicious package and number of weapons were discovered by builders this afternoon.
Roads around the area have also had cordons lifted and things are slowly returning to normal.
Some residents were evacuated to the Bridlington Spa where they could keep warm and have a hot drink.
Speaking to the Echo, one resident said: “The first I knew about this was when I tried to return home, but was told by police the area was sealed off due to the Bomb Squad being in attendance”
“I was shocked as you don’t expect this sort of thing. I normally would have called in to the Londesborough Hotel, but that burnt down a couple of weeks ago.”
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called from Catterick in North Yorkshire earlier this afternoon and quickly asked for the area around the building to be sealed off.
Police stood guard at several cordons and turned back motorists and asked pedestrians to use alternative routes.
