A wonderful photo taken of the ground-breaking Bridlington Ladies Cricket Club from 1948 which was featured in the latest edition of the Echo has created lots of interest.

Amongst those responding to the picture was Lance Cook from Bridlington.

Said Lance, who is the archivist for Bridlington Cricket Club: “The club holds about 60 photos stretching back to 1900…but not this one.”

Lance would also like to know the any of the ladies names.

“I believe the man to be Eric Mellor, headmaster of old Hilderthorpe school and then Burlington school.” Lance continued.

On the subject of cricket in Bridlington, Lance recently wrote the 200-year history of Bridlington CC which is not only a book about cricket but also the people of Bridlington over this period.

The 200th anniversary of the club was to be celebrated on 1st June 2020 and a match with the MCC was arranged – but then cancelled due to Covid.

Added Lance: “The MCC are hoping to send a team to play Bridlington on Sunday July 18th this year, subject to rules and restrictions surrounding coronavirus.”

If you know any of the players in the photo please add the details in the comments.
