A Bridlington resident and his friend are undertaking a 100km charity walk challenge to raise funds for the Covid Ward at Scarborough Hospital.
Peter Hutchinson, along with his friend Lewis Wilkinson who both who live on Kent Square, will be undertaking the challenge over ten days – and then they plan to walk from Bridlington to Scarborough, if they raise over £1500, to hand over the funds in person to the hospital.
Peter’s mum, Jenny Stancliffe, was treated at Scarborough Hospital after becoming seriously ill with Covid-19 last month. Peter recorded a heartfelt plea on video telling of his mum’s desperate plight after contracting the virus. Happily, Jenny has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
“I want to raise funds so that people who are being treated can use an iPad or similar to speak to loved ones and have contact with the outside world.” said Peter.
“The staff there were absolutely brilliant with the care and love they gave my mum – but in the worst-case scenario with a dedicated electronic device -for some patients, it could be the last time they get to see and speak to loved ones,” added Peter.
Peter’s mum Jenny Stancliffe, is delighted by his charity fundraising: “Firstly I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and support. The wonderful care I received at Scarborough Hospital on the Covid ward saved my life and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been here. I’m also so proud of my son Peter for what he is doing.”
The route and dates have been planned and will be carried out with the appropriate social distancing measures. Each walk will commence daily at 10.am and cover the following Bridlington and surrounding areas from 11th May:
11th. West Hill, Town Centre, Old Town.
