Both Bridlington Lifeboats and the Coastguard were quickly on the scene last night...
Bridlington all-weather and inshore lifeboats were launched last night (2 August) after reports of a yacht in difficulties close to the shores of the North Beach - between the Expanse Hotel and Sands Lane area.
Both Lifeboats boats were mobilised for the call-out, with the inshore boat (named Ernie Wellings) first to launch at 10.27pm and the all weather boat, Antony Patrick Jones, launched at 10.43pm.
A spokesman for Bridlington RNLI said: “The inshore lifeboat was initially tasked at 22:27 to a 40ft wooden yacht that had run ashore close to The Expanse Hotel in Bridlington.
“It was soon clear that the all-weather lifeboat would also be needed and this was then tasked by the Coastguard at 22:43.
“Arriving on the scene the inshore lifeboat was used to secure a tow line onto the stranded vessel, and the all-weather lifeboat gently towed the yacht away from the shore.
“The yacht was then towed to safety into Bridlington Harbour. The RNLI volunteers were finally de-briefed at 2:00 with both the boats washed and ready for service again.”
It is understood the yacht had become lodged on the beach and was in danger of rolling onto its side.
The Bridlington Coastuard Rescue Team were also in attendance on the North Beach.
