Visiting pubs around the country sounds like a great idea…and for one Filey man his quest has led him to write a book on the subject.
Mikey Swann has just had his first book published entitled ‘Weird, Wondrous & Historic Pubs of the United Kingdom’ which saw him travel around the four corners of the UK sourcing material for his book.
“It has taken me ten years to complete and I am very happy to say that all that hard work has finally paid off.” said Mikey.
He explained: “There are around 40 pubs in the book which have all been visited by myself and covers the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. There are some Yorkshire pubs in it also. I wanted to make sure each pub had its own story – and as a Yorkshireman I wanted to highlight the county’s pubs as well.”
Pubs visited in the book include the most remote pub (Scotland) and the highest pub (North Yorkshire), and also one watering-hole where the ground-breaking discovery of DNA was announced.
Added Mikey: “The book also contains a very nice foreword by one of the founders of the Hunmanby based Wold Top Brewery and Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, Tom Mellor. I thought having someone who works within the brewing industry would be perfect for the book.”
Some of the pubs included in the book are Wetherspoons and Mikey will also be featured in the pub’s magazine November issue.
