Lottery funding for community transport groups in the East Riding

A grant of £203,975 of lottery funding will enable community transport groups in Bridlington and around the East Riding get more people to their hospital appointments – in a new project that is to be called Home to Hospital (H2H).

The Holderness Area Rural Transport (HART) who work under the umbrella East Yorkshire Community Transport (EYTG) have been successful in their bid to the lottery for funding which will help them deliver transport services to residents in the Bridlington and other areas who need to attend hospital appointments at Hull and Scarborough hospitals.

In 2008, the two well-established transport groups came together and formed EYCT to enable them to work together in partnership, sharing resources and information to help secure the community transport offer. The groups have worked throughout the last 12 months to ensure their passengers were able to attend local hospitals and access centres to receive their vaccinations. Further funding from the lottery will now secure the future of the groups for a further three years.

Cllr Jane Evison, chair of EYCT, added: “We are very pleased to have been awarded this amazing grant which allows us to continue helping those people who live in our towns & villages to get to hugely important hospital appointments.

“The HART service was particularly well received in Bridlington when the existing transport to the Scarborough and Hull hospitals was withdrawn over a year ago, this money will now allow us to help far more people.

“We work closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s transportation team to ensure our services compliment those already on offer and our thanks to the council for the tremendous support we receive.

Absolutely fantastic news. Will really help residents in Bridlington. The sadness is that political dogma stops Bridlington hospital fulfilling local needs.
