Hundreds of visitors filled the Royal Hall at the Bridlington Spa for a showcase of activities and entertainment aimed at the over 50’s.
The Bridlington U3A (University of the Third Age)is a UK movement of both retired and semi-retired people who meet to continue the social and creative interests.
Event organiser and Bridlington U3A Chairman Kevin Smith was overwhelmed with the success of the event.
“The Showcase was a huge success. I spoke to a lot of people in the hall during the showcase and all were complementing the organisation of the event, the scope of activities we offer, and the amount of hard work put in by the Group Leaders and their group members. They also said that they did not realise that we had such an array of talent within our U3A.”
Groups that were in attendance promoted hobbies and pastimes such as learning languages, archaeology, jazz music, walking, drama, New Age Kurling, and crochet and knitting.
Kevin added: “Our Membership Secretary was swamped by people wanting to have information packs. I have received numerous emails from members of the U3A all wanting to say ‘thank you’ for such a wonderful event. I would also like to thank Group Leaders and their teams for all their hard work in getting ready for the showcase.”
One attendee said: “It was a very informative and enjoyable morning. I signed up for a couple of groups and I am looking forward to meeting new people as a result of the event.”
Kevin said: “I managed to walk around and see most groups and the excitement all around the hall was fantastic, the whole place was buzzing.”
