A trio of intrepid Bridlington runners will be striding around the streets of London as they bid to raise over £4,000 for a cancer charity.
Jackie Preston, along with husband and wife team Lucy and Joe Taylor, will be taking part in the prestigious 26.2 mile Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 28th April.
The talented three are aiming to raise over £4,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust and have been undergoing an intensive training programme to get ready for their first marathon event.
Jackie, who runs Richie’s Cafe along with her husband Richard, said: “I am excited and also scared at the same time. Training has been going well and I will be hitting the 22-mile mark before tapering off the training a couple of weeks before race-day.”
Jackie’s running buddies Lucy and Joe Taylor are also both busy training in the run-up to the race. Said Lucy: “I used to get sick notes for P.E when I was at school, but I have really enjoyed challenging myself having recently several 10.km races and half marathons runs. I have stopped drinking for the training period, but will hope to be celebrating with a glass or two of Prosecco when I get over the finish line.”
Lucy has had a challenging year after breaking her wrist, and then giving birth to her fourth child. “I had to shelve training for several months, but have got back into the running routines and I am really looking forward to standing on the start line waiting for the off.”
In the run up to the London Marathon the three runners will be holding series of fundraising events to boost their sponsorship total.
On Monday, 15th April from 2.pm onwards Jackie, Lucy and Joe will be cycling and rowing 26 miles outside Richie’s Cafe on the South Beach and also holding a tombola.
A few days later on Sunday 21st April, there will be Fundraising Day at Richie’s which will start at 12 noon, and run for the afternoon. There will be a face painter, tombola and raffle, and a glitter tattoo artist, as well as other events.
If you would like to sponsor any or all of the runners they have set up a fundraising page.
