Two friends have completed a 135 km sponsored walk and have raised well over £1700 in sponsorship.
Peter Hutchinson decided to take on the challenge of walking 100km in ten days to raise funds for the Covid Ward at Scarborough Hospital.
Along with his friend and neighbour Lewis Wilkinson, who both live in Kent Square in Bridlington, the duo walked for ten consecutive days around the town and villages.
However, the pals completed a grand total of 135km, by taking longer routes on the ten consecutive daily walks.
Peter’s mum Jenny Stancliffe was seriously ill with Covid 19 and was successfully treated in Scarborough Hospital last month.
“The staff there were absolutely brilliant with the care and love they gave my mum – but in the worst-case scenario with a dedicated electronic device -for some patients, it could be the last time they get to see and speak to loved ones,” added Peter.
“My blisters are huge, and really painful after day four:” added Peter. “I just powered through with help from my friend Lewis we had a few fun moments – including waking through a socially distanced outdoor Zumba class in one of the villages.”
“We would like to sincerely thank all our sponsors and people who donated to the fund. We will be walking up to Scarborough Hospital from Bridlington in early June to hand over the money to a representative from the Hospital. Hopefully this will get the fund near to £2000.” he continued.
Peter’s mum Jenny Stancliffe who is now recovering well at home, was delighted by his charity fundraising: “I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and support. The wonderful care I received at Scarborough Hospital on the Covid ward saved my life and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been here. I’m also so proud of my son Peter and Lewis for what they are doing.”
