Two Brothers are getting ready for the London Marathon and hope to raise over £4,000 between them.
Kirk Southern and Ben Wright from Bridlington are running the 2019 Virgin London Marathon in memory of their father Donald Wright who sadly died at the age of 57 after suffering from rare form of dementia.
The running brothers are hoping to raise at least £2,000 each for the Alzheimers Society and are asking for donations via their JustGiving page to help them achieve their target.
“When people (including us) think of dementia we just think of memory loss, such as forgetting what day it is, what people are called etc…..but there is so much more to this terrible illness.” explained Kirk.
“We watched my dad Donald unable to recognise himself in the mirror, losing all his speech, unable to feed himself or have a drink unaided, and had to take him to the toilet.”
“Our mum Susan Wright had to give up her job at Tesco in Bridlington where she had worked for over 25 years to care for him 24/7. She wouldn’t put him in care and struggled through a lot. We all said she needed help but she battled through it with help from family and friends. Finally, she gave in and let him go into full time care in December 2015 where she visited everyday all day and even slept on the floor in his room many a night to be with him until he left us in May 2016.”
“The symptoms go on and on, so we are running this great event in memory of our dad and to raise funds so hopefully one day we will find a cure for this awful disease”
“Please donate whatever you can whether it’s 50p, £1, £5…. every little helps, and our family would like to thank everyone in advance.” said Kirk.
