A new junior cricket team has been set up as part of the ongoing development of younger players by Bridlington Cricket Club.
The newly formed team has just started playing in competitive games and has travelled to Beverley for the last two weeks to play various Hull and East Riding teams.
The format is a soft ball competition for Girls up to U11 and Boys up to U9 age groups, but the club have a few 5 and 6-year-olds playing too with an equal mix of girls and boys.
A spokesman said: “ Most of the kids have moved up from the All Stars cricket which is a national program that the English Cricket Board (ECB) have put together to train kids in the basic ball and bat skills required for cricket. It runs at Bridlington Cricket Club every Wednesday night. Once they are ready for some competition we take them to play 7 tournaments over the summer at various cricket clubs.”
He added: “In our first week we took a young side to Beverley who faired well against Hessle and Hull Zingari. The teams are streamed so that you play others of a similar ability and we all had fun learning how the game is played. We took two teams the following week and played in a higher standard with the older side. There was some good cricket against Hornsea and the Hull Zingari’s top team showed us the tremendous talent and ability that some of the U9 players have. Our younger side drew against Beverley and saw some super batting from our players.”
If anyone is interested in their child, of any ability, joining then please contact Greg Miller on 078 3316 2072.
