Historic and customsied motor vehicles will be racing along the sands of Bridlington’s south beach in early June.
The Backfire supported ‘Race the Waves’ event is unique, exciting and also free to attend. Race the Waves was forged from a huge and successful pilot event being performed on the Bridlington Sands in the Autumn of 2018.
The full weekend event on the 1st & 2nd of June will see American and Custom/Hot-Rod style vehicles, together with Classic style motorcycles around the town. There will be two-morning sessions of sprints on the south beach sands in front of the promenade where the public can get an elevated and excellent view of events.
The opening ceremony is planned to start at 9.30am (subject to weather conditions and tides). Cars and motorcycles will line up to perform ‘drag style’ sand sprints in pairs over an 1/8 mile track on the beach. The participants and audience are encouraged to attend dressed in vintage to retro attire to add to the overall atmosphere.
The event can be viewed from the elevated south promenade, where we will have supporting trade and exhibition areas
One of the organisers said: “To accompany the beach and foreshore element for 2019, the Race the Waves weekend will have a FREE to enter motorcycle exhibition combined with a Steampunk Emporium, within the Royal Hall at Bridlington’s Spa.”
“The very successful Whitby Steampunk Weekend folk are joining with us to create another first for the UK, by combining Motorcycles with a Steampunk trade fair.”
