A Bridlington business has risen from the ashes, just weeks after being closed down by a huge blaze.
Paws and Claws dog grooming and pet supplies was based on West Street for over five years before a huge blaze that ripped through the Londesbrough Hotel irreparably damaged their business which is next to the pub.
But less than four weeks after the devastating fire the dedicated staff have re-located, refitted and opened their new shop on Hilderthorpe Road.
Staff member and dog groomer Bethan Bennett explained: “On the day of the fire we were having a very busy day with seven dogs in the shop. A couple of men from the Kingfisher Homeless Cafe ran in from over the road to tell us the roof was on fire. We thought it was at the other end of the block and carried on working until our boss told us to evecaute. We had to move seven dogs, some part groomed and washed, to the betting shop next door whilst the whole area was engulfed in thick smoke.”
A fish-tank containing several goldfish was also rescue by the staff, who then had to evacuate yet again to the barbers further down West Street.
Shop Manager Liana Smith, along with dog groomer Lucy Leverdier, were also on hand to co-ordinate the evacuation. Owners were quickly contacted to let them know their pets were safe and unharmed.
With the shop being declared unfit for use after severe smoke and water damage from the fire, staff members set about looking for new premises as they knew a long interruption could put them out of business.
After a few days the Hilderthorpe Road shop was identified as a suitable premises and work began immediately on the re-fitting.
Said Liana: “ We started trading around four weeks after the fire closed the shop and I am proud of the way everybody rallied around and helped. I would like to thank the Kingfisher Cafe, the Barbers and the Betting shop staff for all their help during the evacuation and everyone who has helped us and sen=t good wishes.”
“As a small family business we knew we had to rally together and find new premises so as to not let our loyal doggy friends and their owners down.”
The Londesborough Hotel and former Paws and Claws shop has now been totally demolished after being deemed unsafe.
