A cricket club that was founded in 1890 is celebrating its 130 year anniversary this year.
Sewerby Cricket ground is situated on Sewerby cliff top in front of the Georgian grandeur of Sewerby Hall and boasts a panoramic view. It has also regularly been named as one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the country.
The Club is proud of its pavilion incorporating excellent changing facilities for players and officials. The tea room is renowned for its high standards of refreshments, the electronic score board and a fantastic view that is difficult to surpass.
Next to the pavilion there is a fantastic 2 bay practice facility which can be used by club members on practice nights
The playing surface is arguably the best in the area, regularly providing a feast of runs for the delight of spectators who are able to take advantage of the seating, which extends all-round the boundary.
Junior Coaching is available on Friday evenings (6-7pm at Bridlington school) in winter and Tuesday evenings in summer for youngsters from the age of eight years and upwards, who eventually graduate to play in the Under 15 XI in the Derwent Valley Junior League on Sunday mornings.
Parental help and family involvement are welcomed. Sewerby has Junior teams at U9, U11, U13 and U15
The Club senior Team play’s in the “Readers” Scarborough Beckett League. Last year the senior team went undefeated and finished Champions of the second division. Matches are played on Saturday afternoons.
Sewerby are also hoping to run a Sunday Friendly team with a mixture of Seniors and juniors – Club captain Ian Dennis thinks we can offer cricket to everyone who wants it. We also, as an absolute must, ensure we allow some of the good young cricketers the opportunity to play senior cricket, without it being with the added pressure of league points at stake.
Obviously, that will need a commitment from someone to run the team and do it in the aim to develop young players as well as allowing players who may not get a game on a Saturday to play. This Sunday An XI will be run by Junior Manager Mark Gummerson. Sewerby Coaches are ECB trained and have the relevant safeguarding qualification and are DBS checked
The club is always looking for New players of all ages and ability
