A West End theatre and television actress will be directing a highly acclaimed musical at a Bridlington theatre next year.
Catherine Terry has agreed to direct the stage production of SPEND SPEND SPEND which will be premiered at the Spotlight Theatre on West Street next April.
The musical tells the story of Viv Nicholson who scooped over £150,000 on the football pools. Set in Yorkshire in the 60’s, the show is a riot of fun and fabulous songs whilst covering an emotional roller coaster of the life of a pools winner.
Many will remember Viv Nicolson when asked “what she was going to do with her £152,000.00 love….What do you think you’ll do?” Viv simply answered “I’m going to SPEND SPEND SPEND….” and she did.
A spokesman for the Spotlight said: “ It’s a fabulous opportunity for The Spotlight Theatre and for local actors to be directed by a top professional actress and director.”
Catherine, a BBC Children’s Presenter and comedy actress in BBC’s ‘Brush Strokes’ for many years, has appeared in many musicals on the West End stage including ‘Cats’, ‘42nd Street’, ‘Follies’, ‘Me & My Girl’, and is thrilled to have been asked to direct SPEND SPEND SPEND at The Spotlight.
“This is going to be a fabulous show”, said Catherine. “I really want to open up this opportunity to lots of local new blood as well as doing something that the existing members of Spotlight will enjoy. The musical is a cross between Blood Brothers and Billy Elliott and there are lots of lovely roles up for grabs. We will be holding open auditions for anyone who would like to be in the show, and we’re on the lookout for some real new talent. We need strong Yorkshire Characters, especially Young Viv (in her 20’s) and Keith her husband, so if you would like to be a part of this exciting venture do come along and audition.”
