Creative writers from Headlands School have been given a book of short stories, which includes work they have produced in class.
In the Summer Term, students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 took part in an exciting competition with Young Writers.
It is a scheme which aims to encourage young people to engage in creative writing and has worked with many schools since 1991 by running national poetry and creative writing competitions.
This was the first time Headlands School has taken part in a Young Writers Competition and a whopping 29 students have had their work chosen to be printed in the Yorkshire Edition of ‘Mission: Chaos’ – an anthology of 100-word mini sagas varying from surviving a Zombie apocalypse, alien invasion and Dystopian worlds.
Headlands students took part in a number of workshops to help develop their vocabulary choices and sentence structure, which was a real challenge when you only have 100 words to work with.
All of the writers who had their work published were given a copy of the book as an early Christmas present.
English teacher Emma West said: “I am so proud of this achievement. To see our students creative writing published is a real testament to Headlands School students’ hard work and creativity.
“The team here at Headlands work hard to offer all of our students opportunities to grow and develop their talents. We look forward to more workshops like this in the future”.
