The youngsters took part in the Hull and East Riding Rotary Youth Speaks competition and came away victorious after beating strong teams from St. Mary’s College, Hull Cottingham High School and Hymers College to become District Champions.
Teacher Mr Doyle said: ”Their speech entitled ‘The Importance of Challenge’ was praised for its originality as was the outstanding interaction between the team members.”
The team consisted of Archie Murton, Kira Farkas and Daisy Wynn and they have a great tradition to follow from Headlands but comfortably filled the big shoes of past very successful Youth Speaks teams.
The team are now through to the regional final where they will do the speech again with the hope of impressing the judges. The youngsters are hoping to qualify for the Rotary National Youth Speaks Finals which are being held in London later this year.
Mr Doyle added: “The Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition is just one of the many opportunities our students get to have their say and develop their communication skills. We also have an outstanding Student Council and a thriving debate club.”
