The Bridlington Town Council undertook a co-option process at the Full Council meeting on 19th June to elect two councillors for the vacant seats on Bridlington North Ward.
There were around twenty submissions of interest for the councillor posts
A spokeswoman said: “I can announce that the vacancies for Bridlington North Ward have been filled by Mr Shaun Marsburg and Mr Mike Heslop-Mullens.” “Both have signed their declarations to take up office and are now Bridlington North Ward Councillors. The Town Council would like to thank everyone who has shown an interest in the vacancies.” she added.
The two seats were left vacant after the town council elections held in May failed to attract enough candidates to contest the seat. Within electoral law, it is permitted to go through a co-option process, which enables appointment of new councillors within six weeks of the election. Sitting Bridlington Town councillors selected the two candidates by a vote.
