A master class in seamanship from the skipper of potting boat Tradition as the vessel is navigated expertly to the calm and safe waters of Bridlington Harbour after a voyage out on the rough seas this morning.
Paul Winchester, who filmed this dramatic video, was taking his daily walk when he spotted the former trawler picking her way through the heavy swell and breaking high tide waters of the North Sea.
Tradition now works the seas after being converted to a potting boat – fishing for crab and lobster off the east coast.
Is Andy Jewitt still using this boat?
Well done that Skipper I’m sure it’s Easy peasy for him . Can just imagine his comments ( just another day at the office. ??? Love the east coast it’s our favourite. I support the. RNLI. . Dave Gill
Lived here for many years yet have’nt seen that. An emotional moment for me watching this. One individual managing themselves in their “everyday work”, indeed, these are a courageous breed they are.
Capt Cook would have been pleased to have him at the helm.
James Smith Looks like they have done that before very skilled crew used to all conditions.
There is a superb photograph in the harbour office of a trawler making the starboard turn on her beam ends. That one is dramatic!
frightening. a great skipper.
Wow! Amazing seamanship. I held my breath watching!! Thanks for sharing.
