Building work is set to begin on a £1.6 million extension to a popular Bridlington Pub.
The Prior John situated on the Promenade is owned by J.D. Wetherspoons and will close for around eight weeks whilst work is carried out extending the property into the unoccupied former chapel next door.
Part of the expansion plans includes a larger garden area and the creation of a number of new jobs.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “ We have all the necessary permissions to start the redevelopment of The Prior John. Our aim is to start development work within the next couple of months.”
“It is a 14-week project from start to finish and the pub will need to close for the final eight weeks of the redevelopment,” added Eddie.
The former chapel was most recently used for several years as an indoor market
“The Prior John is a very popular pub and I am sure our customers will welcome the fact that Wetherspoons is investing in it, in order to make it even better than it is.
“Hopefully the investment will act as a catalyst for other businesses to invest in the town.”
