BRIDLINGTON Funfair Cancelled this evening -20th October.
Organisers of the Fun Fair, based in Moorfield Road Car Park have asked the Bridlington Echo to inform prospective vistors that this evening’s session has been cancelled due to the severe weather conditions.
The fair is scheduled to re-open from 1pm tomorrow and also on Sunday.
Road closure between Bridlington and Rudston.
The B1253 is currently closed after a tree has blocked the road.
Traffic is being diverted and motorists are asked to avoid the area until authorities remove the fallen tree.
Yorkshire Belle breaks from moorings
Earlier this morning the Yorkshire Belle broke loose from its moorings due to the high winds. Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team and local fisherman helped to secure the vessel.
Bridlington Coastguard and RNLI put out warnings as high winds, rough seas and rain batter Bridlington.
School closure
A school closure has been announced at Headlands School after the school site has been deemed unsafe.
A spokesperson said: “The fabric of the building has become loose and has come away completely in the wind.
“School buses have been turned back to take students home and lessons will be placed onto Google Classroom.”
As Storm Babet persists in Bridlington with gale force winds forecast and a yellow weather warning in force, Bridlington Coastguard and the RNLI have issued advice for members of the public to stay safe by following this safety advice:
• Stay clear of harbour walls. Don’t get caught by rogue waves that can sweep you off your feet.
• Don’t take risks to get the perfect photo.
• Keep dogs on a lead and away from the water.
• In any coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
