Staff from a Bridlington business, which offers employment and educational support are undertaking a sponsored walk to help raise funds for MIND.
On 23rd June the twelve intrepid walkers from Activfirst, based on Thorpe Street, will compete in the charity event to support Hull and East Yorkshire MIND.
Those taking part in the walk are; Neil & Beth Murray, Ali Black, Jen Anderson, Paul Shipley, Russ Fry, Laura Stephenson, Savana Banks, Rachael Nicholson, Karen Clarkson, Grant & Rebekkah Walkington.
Neil Murray who is Managing Director of Activfirst, said: “Our vision at Activfirst is Developing Futures. We know and understand the importance of mental well-being in everyday life and the dramatic impact poor metal health can have on an individual and the people around them. The fantastic work that Hull and East Yorkshire Mind undertake allows us to maximise our potential and deliver on our mission by signposting individuals to access the support they need to build confidence, reduce misconceptions and build awareness of this tremendously debilitating but treatable illness.”
“One of the organisations that we work closely with to assist our participants is Mind, the mental health charity. They offer a fantastic range of services in this area that helps the participants understand what mental health problems are, what may cause them and the many different kinds of help, treatment and support that are available,” he added
One in four people will experience a mental health problem every year. This means that there is someone touched by mental health problems in almost every family, school and workplace. The impact of mental illness can be devastating, not only for those directly affected but also their families, friends, colleagues and loved ones.
Activfirst are organising the charity walk to promote awareness and ensure that the services that are relied on so heavily continue to be available to help our participants flourish.
Hull and East Yorkshire Mind help people improve their mental health and they support over 5000 people every year, but there are so many more people that need them. Mind’s vision is that they won’t give up until everyone experiencing mental health difficulties gets support and respect.
Katie McCreaddie, Mind Community Fundraiser, said: “I would like to thank ActivFirst for their hard work in fundraising for Hull and East Yorkshire Mind. We support over 5000 people each year with their mental health- all in this local area- but we can only do this with the help of ActivFirst, and others like them, who help us to raise the money we need. It’s also great to see a local organisation helping to spread much-needed awareness about mental health.”
How the money helps:
- £10 pays for one person to take part in a group therapy session
- £30 pays to train one of our volunteers who will go on to support people with their mental health
- £50 pays for an individual to receive three hours of one-to-one support
