Family and friends of a late Bridlington resident are appealing for anyone who knew him to give him the ‘best possible send off’ with a marshalled scooter and motorcycle funeral procession.
Bridlington born and bred photographer and taxi driver Paul Deighton sadly passed away on the 2nd August 2023, peacefully at home – aged 69 years.
Paul was a well known figure at motorcycle meetings and races at Olivers Mount in Scarborough as well as at Bridlington Rugby Club, and motorcycle, car racing and scooter rallies all around the country.
Paul’s friend Toby Taylor and his daughter Katrina have asked that the Echo put out a story to alert the many friends he made over the years.
Toby explained: “We would like to give Paul the best send off possible with a marshalled scooter and motorcycle procession.
“I appreciate it would mean a day of work for many but Paul was the type of person that would do anything for anyone.
“Paul was someone that constantly put others before himself. He was genuine true friend, a character and a gentleman and an all round good guy.”
Paul’s funeral will be held on Thursday 17th August at Octon Crematorium at 10.30 am.
Riders who are taking part are requested to meet at Trackers Cafe on Bessingby Industrial Estate,
Bridlington, (Postcode YO16 4SJ).
Participants will then leave there at 9.30am to join the funeral cars alongside Queensgate Park for 9.40am.
Hi daughter Katrina said: “Paul would have loved for as many bikes and scooters as possible to follow the procession.
“This is a celebration of Paul’s life, the dress code is smart casual…scooterists please wear your ‘Cherry Red Docs’ if you have them.”
Following the service there will be a wake at the Bridlington Rugby Club.
“Family flowers only please, we will be collecting donations for Bridlington RNLI Lifeboat as this was one of Paul’s other passions.” added Katrina.
