An independent bookshop in the heart of Bridlington Old Town is set to close its doors next month after almost a year and a half in business.
Old Town Books, on High Street, will welcome customers for the final time on Saturday, August 15, with owner Rebecca Gaines thanking the community for the support she has received since opening the shop in March 2025.
Announcing the closure, Rebecca reflected positively on her experience of running the independent business.
She said: “We are closing our doors after almost a year and a half. Our last day will be Saturday 15th August
“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the shop in any way. I take my hat off to those who run a small business, it is so hard! But I had a dream and I took a chance and went for it. I even won an award and I never win anything!”
Rebecca’s shop quickly became a popular addition to Bridlington Old Town, offering book lovers a welcoming place to browse and discover new reads while supporting an independent retailer.
Chair of ROBOT (Regeneration of Bridlington Old Town), Vicky Barton, said:
“Old Town Books has been a great asset for the High street and we will be sad to see Rebecca leave. We wish her well in the future.”
It is understood that a new businesses tenant will be taking over the premises after the book shop has officially closed.
Before closing for good, customers still have the chance to pick up a bargain, with almost everything in the shop now reduced.
Rebecca added: “The shop is still pretty full and (almost) everything will be reduced, so come and grab a bargain.”
The closure marks the end of a memorable chapter for Old Town Books, with Rebecca passing on her thanks to everyone who helped make her dream of running a bookshop a reality.
