A growing group of sea swimming enthusiasts on the Yorkshire coast is encouraging more people to take the plunge and discover the benefits of cold-water swimming.

Flamborough Flippers have built a reputation as a friendly and supportive community for swimmers of all abilities.
Members say the experience of entering the North Sea offers more than just a physical challenge, helping to reset both body and mind.

The group welcomes complete beginners, stressing that no prior experience is needed.
Newcomers are encouraged to bring a swim float, a sense of humour and a little courage, with seasoned members on hand to offer guidance and reassurance.

Equipment such as swim boots and gloves can also be borrowed, making it easier for first-timers to get started.

Said Jess, one of the organisers: “With laughter, encouragement and icy dips forming part of the routine, members insist there is one simple rule: you’re never sad in the sea.”
