Bridlington and East Riding Family Hubs are shining a spotlight on the importance of building strong, loving connections with babies, as part of Infant Mental Health Awareness Week(8–14 June).

Family Hubs will also be offering information and tips that families can try at home. Photo: Supplied.

This year’s theme – attunement – focuses on how parents and carers can tune into their baby, noticing their sounds, expressions and needs, and responding with care. These everyday moments help babies feel secure, supporting their early development and emotional wellbeing.

Throughout the week, Family Hubs across East Riding will be sharing simple, practical ideas to help parents build these early bonds. A range of sessions are available for families, including breastfeeding support, postnatal groups with infant massage, baby communication sessions, play and learn activities, and antenatal parent education.

Family Hubs will also be offering information and tips that families can try at home, helping to build confidence and strengthen relationships between parents and their babies.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education said: “When you notice your baby’s sounds, movements or feelings and respond with love and care, you’re helping them feel safe, secure and understood. These early connections are so important for their growing brain and emotional wellbeing.

“There’s lots happening across our Family Hubs this week to support parents and carers – I’d really encourage families to come along, get involved and have a chat.”
