The Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership (YCCRP) is celebrating the success of several of its station adoption groups in the recent Yorkshire in Bloom awards.
In the Railway Station and Transport Hubs category, Bridlington, Beverley, Hutton Cranswick and Hunmanby all won Gold Awards, while Cottingham received a Silver Gilt Award.
Bridlington Station is adopted by the YCCRP, which supports Andrew Loxton, who works for Northern in the ticket office, as he plants and looks after the impressive floral displays at the station. Andrew does an outstanding job with the displays and adds more to them each year. This year the YCCRP added a Railway 200-themed planter, which was upcycled from an old chest by volunteers from the Scarborough Community Furniture Store.
Hunmanby Station is maintained by the Friends of Hunmanby Station group, who work hard all year round to keep their station looking at its best.
Community Rail Officer Rachel Osborne said:
“We are very proud of all our station volunteers, who put in so much hard work to keep their stations looking beautiful all year round. We receive many compliments from rail passengers about them.”
Filey in Bloom, who adopt Filey Station, won Gold and Best in Category in the Coastal section.
