Bridlington boxing pair Makhaya Widnall and Frankie Thompson have both won their respective national pre-quarter final contests to advance the quarter finals.
The team travelled to Doncaster as Yorkshire champions where they would face off against the North West Champion for a place in the countries top eight.
Widnall was first on the bill, boxing Gabriel Metcalf from the Sandygate boxing club in Burnley.
Widnall was the more experienced of the two boxers and used his long range and boxing skill throughout the contest to score well and move out of the way.
Metcalf remained competitive throughout and kept coming but the speed footwork and an increased pace in the final round helped to secure a unanimous points decision for the Bridlington boxer.
Thompson was facing off against Lucas Chambers of the West Wythenshawe boxing club in Manchester.
Chambers came with a good pedigree and on a successful run himself but Thompson started the contest strong and made life difficult for the North West competitor.
Chambers proved awkward at time and had an unconventional style that made it hard to pin down – but it was Thompson who was landing the more convincing shots throughout the contest.
After three rounds the judges once again were unanimous in their decision – awarding the win to Thompson.
Head Coach Damien Grant said: “Both boys did exactly what was asked of them throughout the contest.
“They adjusted to their opponents styles well and ensured they were scoring well.”
Both boys now look forward to contests in the National Quarter finals.
They travel to Leicester this coming weekend in the hope to secure a place in the countries top four.
