The volunteer crew of the Bridlington RNLI were tasked to assist a windsurfer in difficulty.
Bridlington RNLI received a tasking to launch the inshore lifeboat Ernie Wellings in order to assist a windsurfer in difficulty on Tuesday (20 February). The request to launch was received from the HM Coastguard at 1.45pm and within 10 minutes of the request the ILB, with 3 volunteer crew onboard, set off to assist the windsurfer.
The HM Coastguards had requested that the Bridlington RNLI crew attend a position around 0.5 miles from Fraisthorpe after receiving a call from the windsurfer via their personal mobile phone and that their mast had broken, they also stated that they were not injured.
The volunteer crew of the ILB reached the casualty within a matter of minutes and confirmed that the windsurfer was not injured but unable to make their own way back to shore. The lifeboat crew then took the windsurfer and his equipment back to the shoreline at Fraisthorpe where he recovered his windsurf.
The crew then returned to Bridlington and the ILB was recovered, washed down, refuelled and was back on service by 2.40pm
