Bridlington will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings this June.
Thursday, 6th June marks the D-Day landings in Normandy, France and the Bridlington community will have the chance to mark the occasion.
Several events are being organised by members of the Royal British Legion, Royal Naval Association, Yorkshire Regiment and the Priory Church.
This is part of the National Commemorations of D- Day which is being remembered by a festival of light.
The groups are also investigating options for the lighting of a beacon after the service.
A service is planned for 11am at the Bridlington War Memorial on Wellington Road, followed in the evening by a D-Day commemorative service at the Priory Church, starting at 7pm. This will include music, readings, prayers and time for reflection.
After the service, there will be a 1940’s -style evening at the Old Ship Inn on St John Street with songs from the era and a warm welcome to veterans and service groups as well as members of the public.
The community centre on New Pasture Lane in Bridlington will also be marking the historic event with food, refreshments and music from the era.
The event, also on 6th June, starts at 1pm and runs through to around 3pm. The event is free and if visitors want to attend in outfits from the 1940’s they are more than welcome.
