Members of Sue Balaban’s Bridlington Rugby Club Slimming World groups recently held a ‘Clothes Throw’, donating almost 70 large bags worth an estimated £1700. Since 2013,
Slimming World members have contributed more than £17m worth of pre-loved items to Cancer Research UK shops.

This event encourages Slimming World members to celebrate their weight losses by donating clothes that no longer fit, thereby raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
Slimming World Consultant Sue Balaban explains: “Being overweight has been shown to increase the risk of developing cancer, although being overweight doesn’t guarantee that you will develop cancer. Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight could prevent around 22,800 cases of cancer every year in the UK, and reduce the risk of 13 types of cancer such as cancers of the breast, bowel, uterus, ovaries and gall bladder.

“The Slimming World programme is based on sustainable behaviour change and helps slimmers to achieve their weight-loss goals from week one. Through weekly support and guidance, members learn how to make changes to their eating habits and quickly start to include plenty of vegetables, fruit and high fibre foods into their regular diet. The support that members get in our weekly group helps them to commit to their goals, and develop the control and confidence to overcome challenges.
“Our ‘Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’ gives members a chance to celebrate the difference that they’ve made to their health and the reduced risk of a range of health conditions, including cancer, whether they’ve dropped one or multiple dress or waist sizes.”
