Bridlington is taking a major step towards national recognition as plans gather pace for a bid to become UK Town of Culture 2028.

Bridlington Town Council has already hosted two open workshops, bringing together residents, creatives and local organisations to help shape the vision. The sessions highlighted strong local pride, from the harbour and coastline to the historic Old Town, alongside a fiercely independent spirit and close-knit community.
Councillor Carlo Verda said the discussions showed a town ready to think boldly about its future. “This is an important moment for Bridlington to come together and shape a shared vision for the future, whatever the outcome of the bid,” he said.

Working in partnership with ERYC, town leaders believe the bid could unlock major investment and deliver a year-long programme of arts, performances and cultural events.
An Expression of Interest is due at the end of March, with successful towns progressing to a shortlist supported by development funding. The eventual winner will receive £3 million, while two runners-up will each gain £250,000.
Leaders are now urging residents to get involved, with further roadshows and consultations planned. They say strong community backing will be key to showcasing Bridlington’s story, talent and ambition on a national stage.
