The owner of a popular Bridlington fish and chip shop has spoken of the devastation after a major fire caused extensive damage to its premises on Queen Street.

According to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, crews were called to a building fire involving an extractor fan at a property on Queen Street at 2.44pm on Saturday, September 19.

The service said firefighters extinguished the blaze using four breathing apparatus sets, a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera. Three adults suffered smoke inhalation, with two taken to hospital by ambulance. Fire officers reported that the property sustained extensive damage.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Naked Fish said the fire broke out during a busy lunchtime service.

The owners of the family-run business said: “Thanks to our team’s quick thinking, everyone was evacuated safely. We are incredibly grateful to them for staying calm, acting decisively, and protecting customers and colleagues.”

Naked Fish also confirmed that residents living in the flats above the shop were safely evacuated.

The business owners added: “We are a family business, and fish and chips have been part of our family for generations. We have faced many challenges, but never a fire. Seeing our shop like this is absolutely devastating.”

Owners also thanked Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, the ambulance service and members of the public for their support following the incident.
