East Riding of Yorkshire Council has secured a full closure order on a council-owned property in Bridlington, after reports of antisocial behaviour and alleged drug dealing.
The order was granted by Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 24 June against a flat on Haworth Walk in Bridlington.
Under the order, no one is permitted to enter the property for a period of three months, except for council officers, police, emergency services or utility providers.
Anyone else found entering or remaining at the premises without a reasonable excuse could face a fine, imprisonment, or both.
The magistrates court heard that there had been a large stream of visitors to the property, intimidation of other residents, continual noise disturbances throughout the night and allegations of theft, criminal damage and drug dealing. A Misuse of Drugs Act warrant had also been executed at the property.
This also involved visitors entering the property at all hours, including via the use of an outside ladder, to access the first-floor flat through the windows.
The closure order application followed a prolonged investigation by council officers, including a street surgery and door knocking on nearby properties.
