A much-loved dog known to many across Bridlington is facing a heartbreaking battle after diabetes began affecting her eyesight.
Hattie, a 12-year-old cocker spaniel who spends her summer holidays in Bridlington each year, has become a familiar sight around the town. Whether strolling along the harbour, enjoying walks on Limekiln Lane and Sewerby Cliffs, or even taking to Wilsthorpe Beach on her famous surfboard, Hattie has won the hearts of residents and visitors alike.
Now enjoying a peaceful retirement at ‘Hattie Hall’, the popular spaniel can often be seen taking gentle walks through local parks and along her favourite route, Pheasant Flush.
Hattie’s owner, Andrew, who lives near Manchester, took early retirement to care for her full-time after she was diagnosed with diabetes. Concerned about the risk of hypoglycaemic episodes, he wanted to ensure she was never left alone and has even bought her a pram so she can continue enjoying trips outdoors.
However, the condition has now begun affecting Hattie’s eyesight and she requires a specialist eye consultation.
Family friend Lisa Davis has launched a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs. More than £2,228 has already been raised towards a £3,000 target.
Lisa said: “Every little penny will help. We just want to give Hattie the best care possible.”
