Bridlington Rugby Union Football Club has paid tribute to its former chairman and director David Jackson after the late businessman left £100,000 to the club in his will.

David’s widow Lesley presented the cheque to current chairman Dean Thompson and current club president John Davies at the Dukes Park clubhouse on Saturday, March 28.
Mr Jackson was a longstanding supporter of the club and funded its youth development officer, reversing a decline in youth numbers from 10 registered players in 2014 to more than 200 today.
Dean said: “We are grateful for Dave’s gift, which will help secure the junior and mini sides that he was passionate about and ultimately sustain the future of our club. Dave was generous, approachable and down-to-earth and loved to see members doing well. I remember the absolute pride that he and Lesley took in the club.”
Mr Jackson, who founded Bridlington-based Hudson Contract, passed away following a short illness last summer aged 70.
Lesley said: “Dave thought a great deal of the rugby club and actively promoted youth development. He enjoyed watching the games and of course, the social side, especially the camaraderie and team spirit.
“He played a large part in helping the club become a place where everyone is treated with equal dignity and respect, particularly women and girls. He would be really pleased to see how this all continues and grows. He would be proud of the team’s successes.”
