Bridlington Poppy Appeal fundraiser Denis Scaife has raised thousands of pounds by selling knitted poppies to passengers on the trains that run on the East Coast network.

Denis, who has raised tens of thousands over the years for the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal, asked earlier in the year if any Echo readers would donate knitted poppies for him to sell to passengers in the run up to Remembrance Day. And true to form he was inundated.

“One Friday we raised £1818.00. We have never achieved such an amount from one return journey to Kings Cross.” explained Dennis.

“The train crews looked after us like lords – having said that we are exhausted.”

The grand total raised for the 2022 campaign came in at £8,600, and Denis thanked all the people who knitted poppies everyone who donated.
