The Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, Luke Campbell MBE, has unveiled a series of transformational projects that he says cpuld help reshape the region’s economy, including the long-term potential for a marina development in Bridlington.

Speaking as the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority unveiled a new film showcasing its Local Growth Plan, Mayor Campbell outlined an ambitious vision for the region, centred on investment, regeneration and job creation.

A six-minute film brings to life the area’s aspirations to become a nationally and internationally recognised destination for business, innovation and opportunity. Among the projects featured are the Humber Freeport sites in Hull and Goole, the regeneration of Hull’s Western Docklands and the future potential of Bridlington Bay.

The prospect of a marina in Bridlington has long been discussed as part of wider ambitions to strengthen the town’s visitor economy and maximise the opportunities presented by its coastline.

While no formal plans have been announced, the Mayor said the Local Growth Plan encourages bold thinking about how major infrastructure and regeneration projects could unlock growth across East Yorkshire.

Mayor Luke Campbell said:

“Our Local Growth Plan is about turning ambition into good jobs, stronger businesses and real opportunities for local people.

“This film shows the scale of what we can achieve. Hull and East Yorkshire is open for business and ready to deliver.”

The Local Growth Plan is the first unified economic strategy produced since the creation of the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority. It aims to provide a clear framework for attracting government funding, private investment and new employment opportunities.

Built around four key priorities – powering the region’s industrial future, supporting local businesses, developing skills and good work and improving connectivity – the strategy is intended to guide investment decisions over the next decade.

The film presents a vision of a region seeking to capitalise on major assets including the Humber estuary, renewable energy industries, advanced manufacturing, tourism and coastal development.

For Bridlington, the inclusion of the town’s bay within the growth strategy signals a recognition of its importance to the wider regional economy.

However, when approached for comment on the plan, the Bridlington Harbour Commissioners (BHC) said they had no knowledge of the plans.

A spokesman for BHC said: “There has been no communication in any form about this plan from the office of Mayor Luke Campbell.”
