A once-neglected and overlooked park in the heart of Bridlington’s historic Old Town is being transformed as part of a wider regeneration programme, raising hopes that the green space could once again become a venue for community events, fairs and family gatherings.
The improvements form part of the Bridlington Regeneration scheme, which has already seen the creation of two striking murals designed to enhance the character of the area.
Works at the park have focused on making the space safer, more welcoming and somewhere residents and visitors can spend time enjoying the surroundings.
A new footpath has been created through the park, with benches installed on either side to encourage people to stop, relax and appreciate the renewed setting. Tree branches have also been cut back and the changes are already helping to breathe new life into an area that many felt had been forgotten for years.
Further upgrades are planned in the coming months, including the installation of new lighting and CCTV cameras. The lighting project is being funded through a partnership with Bridlington Town Council.
A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “These measures will play a key role in preventing anti-social behaviour while giving people a greater sense of safety and confidence to spend time in the park, both during the day and in the evening.”
Works have been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
