Only one NHS dentist now remains in Bridlington after the last practice offering NHS care said only one of its dentists will still offer treatment.
In a letter, shown to the Bridlington Echo by several concerned patients, MyDentist – which is based on Quay Road – said that from 31st May one of their remaining two NHS dentists would be ‘transitioning to an independent care model.’

The letter states:
“As a patient at the practice, you will be aware that I have been committed to caring for your dental needs and providing you with a high level of dental care within the NHS. This has been made possible because of your continued loyalty towards me and the trust you have placed in me as your dentist.
“With deep appreciation for your continued support, I have an important update regarding how I will be providing my patients with their future dental care. With effect from 31s May, I will be transitioning to an independent dental care model, and I will no longer be delivering NHS general services. This decision has been made after careful consideration. Whilst the NHS remains a reputable and vital service, this transition will allow me to offer you an extended range of services to support your dental care journey. As a highly valued patient, I very much hope you will choose to remain in my care.

“I do understand that some patients may prefer to stay with NHS dental services. If you choose to remain with the practice as an NHS patient, NHS dental services will still be available at the practice. However, NHS appointments with clinicians will only be available subject to NHS appointment capacity.
“I will personally endeavour to complete any courses of NHS treatment I have already started, ensuring continuity of your care on the NHS until 31 May. Please attend any booked appointments as normal. You do not need to contact the practice.
Any NHS appointments booked with me after 31s May, will be cancelled.”

Two years ago the BUPA dentist closed to NHS patients on Bessingby Way.
One patient at the practice told the Echo. “I was told that NHS treatment would no longer be available with my present dentist.
“I can’t afford the price of private dentists and have tried calling dentists in several towns nearby who would take on NHS patients, but they simply don’t exist.”
Dr Anthony Clarke from the Bridlington Health Forum, with is a pressure group set up in the town address the lack of medical provision said:
“BHF have been challenging the Integrated Care Board(ICB) since the BUPA dental practice closed.

“They have promised to look at ways to try to improve the situation.
“At the last meeting in April we asked the ICB to investigate the Dental Buses for Bridlington.
“The Secretary of State said she want to roll out many across England. We need one on a temporary basis until they can get the disastrous situation sorted.”
MyDentist have been contacted for comment.
