After the Bridlington Echo revealed that several carved posts had appeared along the East Yorkshire coastline, with one located at Sewerby and one at Danes Dyke, the mystery has finally been solved .
Response to our initial story by some members of the public led to claims that the posts had been planted by aliens.
More plausible answers such as the posts being used as a sundial or mini beacons for the Queen’s Jubilee were also suggested.
However, it can be revealed that the posts are in fact part of a project that focuses on coastal erosion (you can place your mobile phone in the grooves at the top of the pole and take a view of the seascape) and also serves as marker points for cliff top walk.
A spokesperson for Active Coast explained:
“The Coastsnap project focuses on coastal erosion. The walks are an amazing opportunity to see some beautiful sites while also getting to know the impact that coastal erosion is having on the East Yorkshire Coast.
The Coastsnap project has been developed by Active Coast and Visit East Yorkshire, whilst also in partnership with the University of Hull, and focuses on coastal erosion so not only will it be an amazing walk, but the pictures taken will help the study of East Yorkshire’s coastal erosion.
“Taking only a couple of hours all the walks are sure to keep the full family entertained.”
