Bridlington Squash Club were last month confirmed as Humber and District Division Two Champions, carrying on their success after winning the Ryedale Trophy last summer.
This is Bridlington Squash Club’s second piece of silverware since they entered the Humber and District League only two years ago; testament to the hard work shown by all involved.
Ian Thurlbeck, Team Captain, said: “Its only our second season of competitive team squash after a 15 year hiatus, so to win the Humber and District League and get local recognition as a club with some talented players, is testament to the speed at which this club has grown and continues to grow.”
Bridlington Squash Club are also about to defend their Ryedale Trophy against Whitby, Scarborough, Thornton Le Dale and Malton. This season BSC will be entering two teams in to the league, allowing more players to benefit from playing team squash. Bridlington Vikings and Bridlington Seagulls start their season on 7th June with all matches being played on a Thursday night.
The Juniors training program continues to be popular with the children on a Monday afternoon. The new Junior Academy is due to begin in September 2018. Two shining stars in the juniors are Levi Melarkey and Tom Smith. Tom age 12, a true talent who started with us last September, is cruising up the England rankings and is currently seeded 58th in the country.
A massive thanks to Sid Bolton who continues to support the club, giving his time to coach members from every division. In the last month he has done 100 sessions of coaching to the members.
Bridlington Squash Club continue to go from strength to strength with 9 new members entering for the Summer season and we even got a mention on Squash TV during their coverage of the Allam British Open 2018 in Hull.

Friday 4th May was the end of season play off evening where the third placed finisher gets to challenge the 3rd from bottom of the higher division to a play off match. The night was organised by Nick Melarkey. A huge crowd turned up to watch some fantastic squash on display starting with an exhibition match by two of our up and coming Juniors – Tom Smith and Levi Melarkey.
