With warmer weather attracting thousands of visitors to the coast, Coastguard teams say children can quickly become separated from family members in crowded areas. Previous incidents reported locally have seen rescue teams called into action after youngsters were reported missing on Bridlington beach, highlighting how quickly situations can escalate.

Jordan Grebby from Bridlington Coastguard said families can take simple steps to avoid distressing situations during busy days by the seaside.

He said: “What starts as a normal family day out can change in seconds. Beaches and promenades can become extremely busy, especially during holidays and warm weather, and children can very easily become separated from parents or carers.”

He added: “We encourage families to agree a meeting point, make sure children know who they are with and what to do if they become lost. Taking a photo of children at the start of the day can also help by showing exactly what they are wearing.”
Coastguard teams say parents should also encourage children to look out for lifeguards, Coastguard officers or uniformed staff if they need help.

As Bridlington prepares for another busy summer season, the message is simple — a few precautions can help ensure a family day at the coast remains a safe and enjoyable one for everyone.
