It’s a gold for Frankie Thompson and a silver apiece for Makhaya Widnall and Coby Scotter who were taking part in the Monkstown International Box Cup meeting in Dublin.
The highly rated trio from Bridlington Boxing Club made their way through to the final bouts in each of their respective weight and age catergories.
Widnall was involved in a very close final – and on the day that could have gone either way…with the split decision edging in his opponents favour.
Frankie Thompson added to his gold medal haul with another victory against a tricky opponent.
Coby Scotter put in perhaps the performance of the weekend, competing at the weight above where he normally would box – and giving 4 times his experience away – he dropped a points decision, but can be proud of his performance.
Bridkington Boxing Club coach Damien Grant, speaking from Ireland, said:
“Incredibly proud of all three boxers, they have worked extremely hard in the gym and they can all hold their heads high with their performances.
“Coby will now have a rest whilst he awaits the development championships in September.
“Makahaya and Frankie will enter one last box cup event next weekend in Hull before finishing for the season.” added Damien.
