Bridlington Coastguard responds to dolphin stranding…

Bridlington Coastguard received an alert at 3:18 PM this afternoon (February 1st) with reports of a dead dolphin on Bridlington South Beach, near to the Yorkshire Water building.
Em Mayman from British Divers Marine Life Rescue was alerted earlier in the day following reports of a live dolphin being returned to the sea by members of the public.

Upon arrival, however, it was discovered the dolphin, identified as a young female white-beak measuring 1.8m in length, was sadly deceased.
Said Em: “We can’t determine a true cause of death or reason for initial stranding until the necropsy, but public putting them back in the water does pose the risk of them (the dophin) drowning as its not in a controlled manner to allow them to adjust to being back in the water, and judging on it’s condition, we wouldn’t have refloated this mammal.”
The marine mammal has since been recovered for the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme, which studies UK strandings.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the dolphin’s death.
