Local Royal British Legion (RBL) standard bearer and Poppy collector Alex Morris has been recognised for his fantastic fundraising efforts spanning over half-a-century.
Alex was handed a special award by Bridlington Mayor Cllr Liam Dealtry during the Mayoral Civic Dinner at the Bridlington Spa recently.
Unbeknown to Alex, who though he was invited as his capacity as a RBL Standard Bearer, Mayor Dealtry called him to the stage and presented him with a framed 50-year award.
Martin Jolly, who is Bridlington RBL Chairman, also handed over a specially carved plaque to mark Alex’s dedicated service to fundraising.
“For over 50 years Alex has helped raise over £200,000 for the Poppy Appeal, which is an incredible achievement.” said Mayor Dealtry.
“Alex has also represented the Bridlington RBL all over the U.K. as the official Legion Standard Bearer. Alex will always be spotted during Remembrance at the poppy stall in the Promenades Shopping Centre – he always has a smile on his and lots of wise words to pass on.” added the Mayor.
“I feel privileged as the Mayor of Bridlington to be have presented Alex with his medal on behalf of the National Chairman and the Patron of the RBL – HM Queen Elizabeth II. Alex represents everything that the RBL hold dear and that is Service not Self.” said the Mayor.
