British Open Darts return to The Spa Bridlington this September
The Spa Bridlington will play host to the British Open Darts Championship again this year, from Friday, 16 to Sunday, 18 September.
Founded in 1973, the British Darts Organisation (BDO) is recognised globally as one of the world’s leading darts organisations, with over 1,000 officials and a calendar that produces in excess of 800 darts events annually.
The British Open provides the perfect darts weekend for players and supporters, with a full programme of competitive darts from Friday evening to Sunday.
Once again, The Spa Bridlington confirms its renowned reputation as a hotbed for BDO darts and plays host to stars such as Lakeside World and British Classic Champion Scott Waites and also the Lakeside Ladies 10-times World Champion Trina Gulliver MBE, not to mention a host of world talent, all aiming to be crowned champions in 2016.
Both the men’s events are top ranked Category A+ and Category A they are amongst some of the BDO’s most prestigious events in the darts calendar. This year’s championships will be the biggest yet and prize money available has been increased to £26,240, so will sure to attract all the top BDO ranked players.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “These events are always very popular and attract visitors from throughout the world to the East Riding.
“People taking part in this contest are on top of their game and we are delighted to provide them with a venue which fits the occasion.”
The BDO have moved the pair’s event to Friday, which allows for another singles event, The BDO Winmau British Classic, which is Category A, so the weekend will become a double header. This format is becoming increasingly popular throughout Europe as it allows players to compete in two ranked events, with only one weekend in the calendar being used. The women also have two Category B events to play for the BDO Winmau British Classic and the British Open.

The schedule for the weekend is as follows:
Friday, 16 September – doors 3pm – Toe the Oche – 6pm – free entry.
Saturday, 17 September – doors 9am – Toe the Oche – 11am – £10.
Sunday, 18 September – doors 8.30am – Toe the Oche – 10am – £10.
